"The Pharmacist" Makes the Medicine Go Down

Since we have been home and inside this week, we have been looking for education, creativity, amusement and anything other than news to watch. At the beginning of the week, we stumbled upon a gem on Netflix, “The Pharmacist.” This four-part documentary shadows a pharmacist who is blind-sided by the overdose death of his young adult son. The father begins a journey to find some type of redemption for himself, his son, and nameless other addicts. “The Pharmacist” is difficult to watch at places due to the crushing, raw grief of the father, his wife, and their daughter, even when incredible things are accomplished. Still, we found ourselves with renewed belief that good really can overcome evil. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “God still has a way of wringing good out of evil. History has proven time and time again that unmerited suffering is redemptive.” And the psalmist confirms that “yea, though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”, it is a loving and real God who continually remains with us.
